DOHA: The threat finally turned real as Iran fired missiles targeting US military bases in Udeid in Qatar on Monday. Earlier, Iran had threatened to kill 50,000 American soldiers in retaliation for the bunker buster bombing of nuclear plants. The missile attacks come amidst high vigilance from the Pentagon on US military bases in the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump has reportedly stepped into the situvation room with his team and is closely monitoring the proceedings.

Qatar has closed their airspace while the officials said that there were no casualties in the Iran strike. It is said that Iran fired six missiles at the US military base in Doha late Monday evening. Qatar evacuated the base and closed its airspace after receiving the attack signal. Qatar condemned Iran's attack and said it would retaliate. Iran responded by saying that the target was not Qatar, but the US base. Al-Udeid is the largest US military base in the Middle East.

The sudden retaliation comes three days after the US made their official entry into the Iran-Israel war by attacking three nuclear facilities of Iran. The superior B-2 bombers had dropped 14 bunker-buster bombs on three nuclear facilities in Iran.

Last day, a declaration came on the Iranian state television channel to massacre US soldiers en masse and send the coffins back to Washington. The operation was titled as Bhasarat-al-Fath.

There are 45,000 American troops stationed in bases and on warships in Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and the UAE.

Qatar, Bahrain and the UAE also temporarily closed their airspace given the threat. Emergency sirens sounded in Bahrain. People were advised to move to safer places. US bases in Syria and Iraq were put on alert.

Meanwhile, India has warned its citizens in Qatar not to come out of their residences. Qatar is home to a sizeable Indian diaspora.

Following the closure of the Qatari airport, flights from Kochi have been restricted, officials in SIA said. An Air India flight that departed from Kochi to Qatar at 6.53 pm returned to Muscat this morning. Air India's Doha flight, which was scheduled to depart today, has been cancelled. A Qatar Airways flight, scheduled to arrive in Kochi at 2.53 am, was delayed. An Air Arabia flight, which was scheduled to depart from Abu Dhabi and arrive in Kochi, was also delayed. The Etihad plane was recalled.
