Kuwait fire: Company announces financial assistance of eight lakh rupees to families of deceased; jobs for dependents

KUWAIT: NTBC has announced financial assistance of eight lakh rupees to the families of employees including Malayalees who died in the fire in Kuwait. The company also said that it will provide employment and other benefits to the dependents of the deceased. The officials informed that the employees' insurance amount and other benefits will be made available immediately. In a press release, the NBTC said that it is completing the procedures with the government and the embassy to bring the bodies of the deceased back home.

So far, 22 Malayali victims of the disaster at the labour camp in Kuwait have been identified. It is reported that a total of 49 people have died in the accident, of which 42 are Indians. More than fifty people were injured and are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. The Ministry of External Affairs had informed that efforts have been started to bring the dead bodies home. Union Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh held a meeting with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al Yahya. He also assured full support to the fire victims in issues including medical assistance, repatriation of bodies and investigation into the incident.

The state government has announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the Malayalees who died in the fire in Kuwait. In a special cabinet meeting held today, it was also decided to provide financial assistance of Rs 1 lakh each to the injured Malayalees.
