Kuwait fire tragedy: 24 Malayalees killed in fire accident, confirms NORKA

KUWAIT CITY: Adding more concern to the already shattering Kuwait fire tragedy news, NORKA CEO confirmed that almost 10 more Malayalees’ have succumbed to injuries in the incident, taking the total toll of Malayali victims to 24. More information regarding the identification of the deceased will be made available soon. The CEO also stated that the information about the death of 24 Malayalis’ has been given to the NORKA help desk in Kuwait.

On another news, the health status of seven Malayalees injured in the fire accident is continuing in critical condition. NORKA CEO said that the mortal remains of the victims will be brought to Kerala at the earliest. Meanwhile, the Kerala CMO also confirmed the total number of victims from Kerala as 24.

Health Department Minister Veena George will fly to Kuwait as a representative of the Kerala government and will visit the injured Keralites. The minister will also monitor proceedings to fast-track the repatriation of the dead bodies.

In the latest, the authorities have raised concern about the whereabouts of a Thrissur native who is still missing. Benoy Thomas, a native of Chavakkad, who is reported to have been in the apartment during the fire accident is now elusive. Benoy arrived in Kuwait four days ago. Of the total of 50 injured in the fire accident, more than 30 are Malayalees.
