GURUVAYUR: Devotees protested in the Guruvayur Temple on Thursday, on New Year. The devotees, who were standing in the queue from Wednesday night, protested in front of the temple. The protest was for allowing people with special passes to enter the temple without considering those waiting for hours for darshan. The devotees reached the eastern nadapanthal at 7 am to protest. The devotees broke the barricades and chains set up for the queue system in the nadapanthal, later gathered there and protested. The protest was by conducting namajapam. Their demand was that the special pass entry should be started only after allowing them to enter.

Since it was Thursday, a huge rush was witnessed in the temple since Wednesday night. Devotees had lined up for the Thursday morning darshan on Wednesday night itself. Many political leaders and prominent celebrities, including Union Minister Suresh Gopi and opposition leader V D Satheesan, had visited the temple today. In addition, devotees offering ghee lamps were allowed entry but the others in queues were not allowed.

After seeveli, senior citizens who were waiting for darshan were allowed entry. This led to protests from devotees who had been waiting for hours.
