DUBAI: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) on Tuesday announced that it has reduced the speed limit on Al Ittihad Road, one of the busiest highways between Sharjah and Dubai. The new speed limit will come into effect from November 20. The speed limit has been reduced from 100 km to 80 km.
This speed limit will be applicable only on Al Ittihad Road between Sharjah-Dubai border and Al Garhoud Bridge. This is a decision taken jointly by RTA and Dubai Police to facilitate traffic. The decision was based on a study conducted on the number of entrances, repeated accidents, recent developments on the road and the area.
A new sign of 80 km has been installed replacing 100 km on Al Ittihad Road traffic boards. Red lines are marked on the roads where the speed limit should be reduced to increase the awareness of the drivers.
The RTA regularly reviews and make changes in speed limits on major roads in Dubai to improve traffic flow and reduce road accidents.
