KABUL: The Taliban government in Afghanistan arrested four youths for dressing in styles inspired by the British super hit TV series Peaky Blinders. The incident happened at Herat. The charge against them is the promotion of foreign culture. Asghar Husinai, Jalil Yaqoobi, Ashore Akbari and Daud Rasa were the ones arrested. The arrest is followed by their visuals appearing on social media wearing Peaky Blinders costumes and walking through Jebrail town.
Taliban minister Saif-ul-Islam Khyber clarified that they were arrested for imitating film stars and acting against the values of Afghanistan. 'Afghanistan has religious and cultural values. Especially on dressing. We are Muslims and Afghans. We protected the country from spreading harmful cultures through many sacrifices. It is time to defend it as well. The dress they put on doesn’t have any Afghan identity. It does not match our culture. Next to that, their acts were an imitation of the actors from a British movie. We are a Muslim community. If we want to follow or imitate anyone, then it should be the religious ancestors of ours’- the minister pointed out. Meanwhile, the minister revealed that the men were freed after being warned. However, some reports claim that all four have been shifted to a rehabilitation centre.
