TEHRAN: Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said the US will regret the action of sinking the Iranian naval vessel, IRIS Dena. His response was in a post on X.
‘The US has committed an atrocity at sea, 2000 miles from the Iranian coast. The IRIS Dena, which was a guest of the Indian Navy and was carrying about 130 sailors, was attacked in international waters without any warning. Mark my words. The US will have to regret this very much,' wrote Seyed Abbas Araghchi.
The US sank Dena by a torpedo fired from a US submarine attack while it was sailing in the waters off Sri Lanka. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had also confirmed that US sank the ship. The Dena was attacked early yesterday morning while it was sailing in the Indian Ocean. Reports say 87 people on board died. 32 were rescued. The search for the others is progressing.
Although the war began on February 28, IRIS Dena did not seek any help from India after that, a report quoting central government sources said.
