
DHAKA: Another Hindu youth has been killed in Bangladesh. The dead is Sarat Mani Chakraborty (40), owner of a grocery store. The attack took place in Narsingdi district at around 10 pm on Monday. The assailants attacked the youth with sharp weapons. He was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries and later succumbed to it. This is the second incident that happened in the country in the last 24 hours.
Attacks against religious minorities are rising in Bangladesh. A 40-year-old Hindu widow was gang-raped in Jhenaidah district. Local media reported that the woman's hair was cut off and was tied to a tree, and the footage of the attack was filmed and circulated on social media. The incident happened on Saturday. The attack was reportedly due to a land dispute. Two of the accused have been identified.
Meanwhile, a Hindu journalist was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Jessore district yesterday. The editor of the Narail-based newspaper B D Khobor, Rana Pratap Bairagi (45), was killed. Rana is the fifth Hindu to be killed in the country in three weeks.
Rana Pratap had been running an ice factory in Kopaliya Bazaar for two years. On Monday evening, some people called Rana from the ice factory, took him to an alley and shot him dead.
