KOCHI: Asha Bhosle's return to Mollywood through " Marykkundoru Kunjaadu" was highly anticipated but ended in gloom. If the attempt to bring Asha Bhosle had been successful, the melodic voice that throbbed the nation would have yet again graced the industry. The song ‘Swayamvara Subhadina’ from the 1977 movie ‘Sujatha’ is the only song Asha rendered in Malayalam.

It was Ignatius of the Berny-Ignatius duo who suggested that Asha Bhosle sing in the film directed by Shafi, starring Dileep. Shafi and the producers agreed. Initial discussions were held with Asha's office. She was very interested.

The first condition was that the song would be recorded in Mumbai. During further discussions, concerns were expressed about whether the song would be a hit. Matters including remuneration could not be agreed upon. Later, the effort was abandoned. Marykkundoru Kunjaadu was released in December 2010.

“That loss was personal, too. We couldn't bring her to the movie despite our best efforts,” Ignatius told 'Kerala Kaumudi'.

"After Lata Mangeshkar, there is no singer who could render songs with such clarity. Asha Bhosle’s death leaves a huge void. Although there are a few people like Shreya Ghoshal, they cannot fill the gap left by Lata and Bhosle. Not only is her voice sweet, but the perfection of her singing is what makes her truly special. Asha Bhosle sang even the most complex songs effortlessly,” Ignatius said.
