NEW DELHI: Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium has reportedly been damaged in a drone attack. The attack on the stadium came hours before the Pakistan Super League match, scheduled at 8 pm tonight.
The match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings was scheduled for tonight. This is said to be a retaliation for Pakistan’s attempt to attack 15 military installations in India. Air defence radar systems in Lahore were damaged in India's counterattack.
The report also said damages to a restaurant building near the cricket stadium. The authorities have sealed the area. Two people were reportedly injured in the attack and were admitted to the hospital. It is also reported that the matches scheduled to be held here have been shifted to Lahore, considering the worsening tensions. Some media outlets are reporting that players from England participating in the PSL matches are planning to return to their home country.
Pakistan Army Spokesman Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry had earlier claimed that some drones were neutralized from Lahore, Gujranwala, Chakwal, Bahawalpur, Miyano, Karachi, Chor, Rawalpindi and Attock.
Pakistan earlier employed drones and missiles to attack several military installations in India, including Awantipora, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nal, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj. But India countered this with air defence systems. The Indian Army said that the remnants of these attacks have been recovered. Alerts have been issued in the states of Rajasthan and Punjab, which share a border with Pakistan.
