Earthquake in Japan; Tsunami warning, people advised to evacuate coastal areas

TOKYO: A strong earthquake was reported in Japan. An earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale was felt in northern Japan. Following this, the Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami warning for coastal areas. People living in coastal areas have been advised to evacuate.

Japanese media NHK reported that a one-meter-high sea wave swept across the coast of Japan. They have also reported that the country's power plants are being inspected to see if there are any problems with their nuclear plants. Japan is one of the most earthquake prone areas in the world. In 2011, Japan experienced its worst earthquake ever. On that day, the Fukushima nuclear power plant was damaged.
