
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a rousing welcome on his arrival in Johannesburg, South Africa, for a three-day visit to attend the G20 summit. The G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, is the first to be held on the African continent. The African Union became a permanent member of the G20 during India's presidency in 2023.
Narendra Modi was accorded a traditional welcome at the Waterkloof Air Force Base (AFB) in Gauteng, accompanied by South African dances. He interacted with the Indian diaspora waiting at the hotel. Artists from states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan performed traditional dances for the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister said that he was deeply touched by the warm welcome extended by the Indian community in Johannesburg, stating it reflects the warmth of the relationship between India and South Africa.
