BEIJING: A man who tried to save a woman’s life with CPR after she collapsed on a street in China is now facing allegations of inappropriate conduct. The incident occurred in Hengyang, central Hunan province, prompting authorities to launch an investigation following complaints from local residents.

According to the complaint, the 42-year-old man, identified as Pan, allegedly touched the woman inappropriately while performing CPR.

The incident unfolded when the woman suddenly collapsed on the roadside. A nearby female doctor initially provided CPR but grew fatigued and sought help. Pan, who claimed to have training in clinical medicine and CPR, stepped forward and administered aid for about ten minutes. Before the ambulance arrived, the woman’s pulse returned, and she regained consciousness. She was later taken to a hospital for further evaluation.

Video footage of the incident soon went viral on social media, triggering criticism and allegations against Pan. Responding to the backlash, Pan told the media, “If I had known I would be accused like this, I wouldn’t have stepped in to save her.” He also questioned why the female doctor at the scene did not object if anything was inappropriate.

Meanwhile, numerous social media users have come out in Pan’s defence, praising his actions and pointing out that his timely intervention likely saved the woman’s life while others remained bystanders.
