WASHINGTON: The United States have purportedly carried out a powerful bombing attack in the Latin American country of Venezuela. Seven explosions were reported, including in the capital, Caracas. The attack was reportedly carried out under the instruction of US President Donald Trump.
However, the United States have not made any official statement regarding the Caracas bombing. It is not clear whether there were any casualties in the attack. The attacks took place in the states of Caracas, Miranda, Arahua, and La Guaira. Military and civilian targets were also attacked, according to the report.
The attack took place in the early hours of this morning. Panicked people ran from their homes into the streets as the explosions occurred. Footage emerged of the explosions and people fleeing. People said they heard the deafening roar of warplanes. Following the attack, the government declared a state of emergency in Venezuela. Television channels have suspended entertainment programs, including music.
The current attack is believed to be a result of a long-standing dispute between the two countries. Tensions have escalated since Trump returned to power. Trump has demanded that President Nicolas Maduro step down as soon as possible, which the autocrat refused.
Trump had previously hinted at the possibility of US conducting ground strikes on Venezuela. The US military has destroyed eight Venezuelan boats in the Caribbean and Pacific Oceans, accusing them of drug smuggling. 107 people were killed in 30 attacks.
