TEL AVIV: Amidst rising international support for an independent Palestinian state, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed not to bow down. Netanyahu said recognising Palestine would be a huge boon to terrorism.
Netanyahu said that a Palestinian state would never be established and that the goals of the Gaza war would be achieved by eliminating Hamas. Portugal has joined the U.K., Canada and Australia in recognising the Palestinian state. With this, the number of countries supporting Palestine in the 193-member United Nations (UN) has reached 151.
France, Belgium, Malta, Luxembourg and other countries will also approve. Netanyahu warned of retaliation against such moves. Israel also clarified that it will continue to occupy the settlement in the West Bank.
At the same time, the high-level meetings of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York, US, will begin on Tuesday and end on the 29th. Gaza will be the main topic of discussion. A special meeting was held on Monday under the chairmanship of France and Saudi Arabia to discuss the implementation of the two-state solution and the peaceful resolution of the Gaza issue.
Israel's intense attack on Gaza continues. The total death toll has crossed 65,340, with 37 people killed on Monday alone. Two hospitals in Gaza City, where the ground offensive intensified, have been closed. Health workers say that the injured are on the verge of death due to a lack of adequate treatment.
Hamas publicly shot three people for allegedly collaborating with Israel. The incident took place on Sunday. Footage emerged of Hamas members beating and shooting them in front of a crowd in Gaza City. It was a warning to anyone who dared to ally with Israel. Meanwhile, Hamas sent a letter to US President Donald Trump, demanding a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and the release of half of the hostages.
