DHAKA: There are rumours of yet another coup in Bangladesh. Reports are emerging that the military may oust the head of the interim government, Muhammad Yunus, and take control of the country. The military, led by army chief Waqar Uz Zaman, held an emergency meeting on Monday. This is said to be the beginning of major developments that may occur in the country in the coming days.
Top military officials, including five lieutenant generals, eight major generals (GOCs), commanding officers of independent brigades, and officers from the military headquarters, attended the meeting. The interim government led by Yunus took power after the fall of the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina in August last year. However, the people have not taken this government into confidence. With this, reports are emerging that the military is seizing power.
It is reported that the military will put pressure on the president to declare a state of emergency in the country or carry out a coup against Muhammad Yunus. It is also reported that the possibility of forming a national unity government led by the military is being examined. Recently, various political parties and student leaders have raised their voices against the army, which has upset a section of the army.
