ALASKA: Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump will meet on August 15. Donald Trump said that the meeting with Putin will take place in Alaska. The meeting will be held as part of the finalised agreement between the two countries to end the Ukraine war. Trump also said the deal may include Ukraine and Russia swapping some territories.
Ahead of the summit, on Friday, Putin held discussions with leaders of China and India. This will be the first U.S.–Russia presidential summit since June 2021, when Joe Biden met Putin in Geneva.
Trump had earlier warned that new sanctions would be imposed on Russia if a peace agreement was not reached within 12 days. Trump issued the warning, expressing frustration with Putin's stance of prolonging the war.
At the start of this month, Trump demanded that the war be ended within 50 days. But Dmitry Medvedev, Putin’s close friend and former Russian president, responded that Trump should not come with his “regular ultimatum show,” warning that it could lead to a war involving America.
