BEIJING: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in China after a gap of seven years, received a warm reception as he landed at Tianjin Binhai airport on Saturday. He was welcomed with a red carpet as he stepped out of the aircraft, with senior Chinese officials present to receive him. Modi walked past cultural performances by dancers and artists, while members of the Indian community gathered at the airport greeted him with chants of “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata ki Jai.”
A Chinese woman married to an Indian, along with her child, came to meet Modi and said she deeply admired both India and the Prime Minister. She added that she was moved to tears after meeting him. The event also featured Chinese performers presenting Indian art forms, adding to the colour of the ceremony. Analysts noted that the grand welcome extended to Modi after seven years was also seen as China sending a strong message to the United States.
