'You've almost ended my son's career'; signed shirt thrown into the dustbin; Yuvraj reveals

MUMBAI: Yuvraj Singh was the hero behind India’s triumph in both the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India won both tournaments, and Yuvraj was named Player of the Tournament in each.

One of the most iconic moments of his career came in 2007, when he hit six sixes in an over against England's Stuart Broad. Now, Yuvraj has shared some interesting details about what happened after that historic feat.

Speaking on a YouTube channel, he revealed the truth behind long-standing rumours that then IPL chairman Lalit Modi gifted him a luxury car for the achievement.

Yuvraj said, “He had told me that if anyone hits six sixes, he would gift a Ferrari. After I did it, I asked him where my Ferrari was. He then offered a Porsche instead. I asked if it could be upgraded to a Ferrari if we won the next match, but he said it would only be a Porsche. In the end, I received a BMW M5. So he did keep his promise.”

He also recalled a funny moment involving Stuart Broad’s father, Chris Broad, who was the match referee at the time. After the fifth six, Yuvraj smiled at Stuart and said, “Now we are even.”

After the match, Chris Broad told him, “You’ve almost ended my son’s career.” He also asked Yuvraj to sign a shirt for Stuart. Yuvraj wrote a message wishing him to become one of the best bowlers in the world. However, he later heard that the shirt was thrown in the dustbin.

Despite that tough moment, Stuart Broad went on to become one of the most successful bowlers in Test cricket. As Yuvraj had predicted, the six sixes did not end his career; it only made him stronger.
