THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Police have received information that Bailin Das, who was arrested for brutally assaulting a junior lawyer, was a habitual troublemaker in all the Air Force units where he had served.

Although a charge trial was conducted in connection with a mistake he made—prior to a Court of Inquiry—he was let off after he submitted an apology. This incident took place while he was working in Coimbatore. Those who worked with him stated that Bailin regularly caused problems with colleagues, had a short temper, and would often speak rudely and inappropriately to others.

While serving in Srinagar, many such issues were resolved with the intervention of the Malayali Association. In the Air Force, he held the post of Specialized Vehicle Operator, serving as the driver of vehicles that transported missiles. He also worked for a brief period in the radar section. He retired from the Air Force in 2019.

After retirement, he became a lawyer in Vanchiyoor. During this time, he contested the corporation elections as a CPM candidate, later left the party and joined the Congress. He was also actively involved in the Vizhinjam protest, serving as an office-bearer of the protest committee. Bailin was active in Bar Association elections as well and was a regular singer in the association’s cultural programs.
