The news regarding the separation of music maestro AR Rahman and his wife Saira Banu came as a shock to many. The couple has parted ways after 29 years of marriage. Meanwhile, some reports are claiming that Rahman's bassist Mohini Dey is the reason behind the separation. The rumours gained strength after Mohini announced her separation from her husband Mark Hartsuch on the very same day the news of Rahman and Saira's separation came out.
29-year-old Mohini Dey hails from Kolkata. She has participated in more than 40 music shows with Rahman. Mohini has also participated in Gaan Bangla's music television show 'Wind of Change'.
Meanwhile, Saira Banu's advocate Vandana Shah has dismissed the rumours and said that Mohini Dey's divorce has nothing to do with the separation of Rahman and Saira Banu.
"There is no link between the two separation announcements. Saira and Rahman parted amicably due to differences. Don't bother them with such speculations. The couple decided to get divorced after a lot of thought," Shah said.
AR Rahman and Saira Banu got married in 1995. Rahman had previously said that it was an arranged marriage and that it was his mother who found Saira for him. Rahman had three demands: an educated, music-loving, humane wife and Saira filled the conditions perfectly. The couple has three children namely Khatija, Rahima and Ameen.
