'Mammookka's action made me sad, that feeling stayed with me even after I got home'

Actress Zeenath has openly expressed her disappointment over not receiving substantial or impactful roles throughout her film career. In a recent interview with a YouTube channel, the actress revealed that her lack of close friendships within the film industry may have contributed to the lack of opportunities.

She also shared memories of her friendships with actors Mammootty and Mohanlal. “My acquaintance with Mohanlal began during the shoot of Dhanam. That bond eventually led to my role in Kilukkam,” she noted. She also recalled working alongside Mammootty in the film Mahanagaram, sharing a memorable incident from the set. “During the shoot of Mahanagaram, I was getting my makeup done when I saw Mammookka seated nearby. I noticed everyone respectfully greeting and speaking with him. I wasn’t familiar with that culture at the time, but it was clear it stemmed from the deep admiration and respect people had for him,” she said.

While she too admired Mammootty, Zeenath admitted she found it difficult to express her feelings. “He glanced at me a few times during the day, and after the shoot, while I was changing my makeup, he came over and greeted me with a respectful 'namaskaram'. I was completely taken aback—I had always wanted to speak to him. But instead of joy, I felt a deep sadness in that moment. I hadn’t expected him to approach me, and his gesture stirred emotions I couldn’t quite explain. That feeling stayed with me even after I got home,” she recalled.

She also shared her disappointment over Mammootty's absence at the recent AMMA meeting.

Reflecting on her career, Zeenath said, “I have acted in many films, but I never got the opportunity to portray a powerful role. That remains a regret. Perhaps it's because I didn’t maintain strong friendships within the industry. Or maybe some missed opportunities were due to my own limitations,” she said.
