KOCHI: FEFKA General Secretary B Unnikrishnan reacted to the censor board's denial of approval for Suresh Gopi's latest film titled ‘JSK’. According to Unnikrishnan, apart from the changes demanded in the title, the censor board also asked the makers to change the names of characters in the film.
B Unnikrishnan talked with Suresh Gopi about the issue. However, the actor-turned-politician’s direct intervention to solve the issue didn’t bear fruit.
"Kerala Censor Board was completely satisfied with ‘Janaki vs State of Kerala’. In 96 places, Suresh Gopi mentions the name Janaki. How can all that be changed? FEFKA may launch a direct protest on the issue. Where are we heading? This is totally unacceptable.
If the characters are Hindu, it is normal that the names will be somehow or other linked with a deity. Can't I even put names for characters in my film? This is a very serious problem. The director has been asked to take legal action,' said B Unnikrishnan.
Earlier, director Padmakumar too faced similar troubles while releasing his movie. Director Padmakumar was forced to change a character named 'Janaki' in his film.
The character's name was Janaki. They said that that too should be changed. B. Unnikrishnan pointed out that the permission was given only after he changed the name from Janaki to Jayanti.
JSK was scheduled to be released on June 27, when news emerged on Saturday about CBFC denying a screening permit. The censor board has suggested that the name of a Hindu deity be changed. JSK Janaki vs State of Kerala is a courtroom thriller film written and directed by Pravin Narayanan, starring Suresh Gopi in the lead role.
