KOCHI: An argument broke out over the byelaw soon after the elections were held in Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA). The actors protested over electing the members for the executive committee. Finally, when bylaw cheated, Ramesh Pisharody and Dr Ronnie were defeated. As per AMMA's bylaws, there should be four women in the governing body. A total of five women competed this time and two lost.

With that, majority of those participating in the general body hoped that the three who contested for the executive committee would be elected. But advocate K Manoj Chandran, the electoral officer after announcing the names of eight including Ananya and seven actors who garnered more votes, informed then the remaining three should decide on co-opting members to fill the vacancies.

Baburaj, Anoop Chandran, Joy Mathew, Kalabhavan Shajon, Jayan Cherthala and others raised objections. Usha, Priyanka, Sarayu and Kukku Parameswaran created a ruckus. Actor and former panchayat member P P Kunhikrishnan who acted in 'Nna Thaan Case Kodu' came forward with an interpretation of the law and conveyed things to Mohanlal.

Their directive was that Sarayu and Ansiba, who contested for the executive committee, should be selected and the remaining one could be co-opted. But the electoral officer raised the argument that both of them are behind in terms of votes. With this, the new general secretary Siddique and vice president Jagadish made persuasion moves. They said the general body should decide to nominate both of them to the executive committee and the remaining one can be nominated.

With that, the meeting passed the names of Sarayu and Ansiba. The names of Usha, Manju Pillai and Sheelu Abraham were directed for the remaining posts. Finally, after the decision was made that the governing body will find a person to be co-opted from the proposed names, the electoral officer announced ten names, including three women. Twelve people contested for the eleven-member executive. With the selection of three women, Ramesh Pisharody and Dr Rony were dropped from the committee.
