Now, director Alphonse Puthren has revealed that the inspiration for this character was his own wife. He revealed this at an awards ceremony. Like the character Malar, Alphonse's wife Aleena is also a good dancer.

'It was a love marriage. When I was studying in Chennai, Aleena was studying at Stella Maris. We got married after the movie Premam. The character Malar in the movie Premam was inspired by Aleena. Not completely, but a little bit. I met Aleena while making the movie Neram. We started talking after that movie. After that, we informed our family. The wedding was in August 2015,' said Alphonse Puthren. The couple has a son named Ethan, born in 2016, and a daughter named Aina, born in 2018.
