KOCHI: The elections for the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) will be held on August 15. The elections are being held after Mohanlal stepped down from the president’s post of the Association. Many male and female actors have filed nominations for various posts in the association. Among the contenders are accused in sexual abuse cases. Actors like Anoop Chandran, Maala Parvathy, Mallika Sukumaran and now actress Sreelatha Nampoothiri have stepped forward against them contesting polls.
Sreelatha said, ‘If the accused can become an office bearer, then why was Dileep kept out? There is no point in expelling Dileep. When contesting an election, one should know all this. We should not do that. If he contests and wins, another controversy will arise. The question will arise whether such people are being brought in again.'
'There is no other organization like this that helps the needy. If members have any complaints, they should inform the office bearers. There will be problems when you are in an organization. We have to solve the problems of many. We have to listen to the problems. So, when people from this organization make many mistakes, the first thing we do is will ask the president. If we are re-electing those who have this case and dispute, people will question it,’ she said.
