NEW DELHI: Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi today. The two leaders will sign agreements to ensure greater cooperation in various areas. Lawrence will meet President Droupadi Murmu and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
Lawrence arrived in Delhi on Tuesday for a three-day visit. This is his first visit to India. He paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat yesterday with his wife Lou Se Lui. Lawrence met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The two countries discussed enhancing cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, healthcare, skill development and connectivity, the Finance Ministry said in a statement.
The Singapore Prime Minister's crucial visit comes at a time when India and Singapore are completing 60 years of diplomatic relations. The Singaporean Prime Minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Transport and Finance Jeffrey Siow, and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Siow Huang. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that Singapore is an important partner of India. The bilateral relationship had grown into a comprehensive diplomatic partnership with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Singapore in 2024. Lawrence and Modi will jointly inaugurate the container terminal in Maharashtra, where Singapore has invested Rs 8,800 crore, through video conference.
