MUMBAI: A newborn baby declared dead by doctors at a government hospital was found alive moments before burial. The incident happened at Swami Ramanand Tirtha Government Hospital in Ambajogai in Mumbai. After being declared dead, the hospital authorities handed over the baby to his relatives. However, 12 hours later, the baby started crying.
A woman of Mumbai, gave birth to the baby on July 7. However, the doctor informed the relatives that the baby had died at around 8 pm. The baby's body was then taken to the village for the funeral rites. The next day, while digging a pit for burial, the grandmother insisted on seeing the baby's face for the last time. When the cloth covering the baby’s face was removed, the baby started crying. He was immediately taken to the hospital and admitted for treatment.
The hospital authorities said the baby showed no signs of life after birth and was not responding to medications. The woman reached the hospital on July 7and the duration of her pregnancy was 27 weeks. There were complications during the delivery. The weight of the baby boy was 900 grams.
Doctors said the baby was declared dead after not responding to the medicines. The hospital has formed a committee to investigate the incident. It has also been informed that action will be taken against the doctors if found guilty. The woman's relatives have also filed a complaint with the police.
