BENGALURU: The high élan over Royal challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL quest turned into grief after 11 people died in a stampede during a victory parade in Bengaluru. More than 25 are feared to be seriously injured with children included in the list. The death toll is likely to rise.

There are mounting allegations over a major security breach that has reversed the whole mood of the capital city. The terrible catastrophe near Chinnaswamy Stadium occurred as excited fans came in throngs to participate in the parade.

As soon as the stadium gates opened, fans rushed inside giving nightmares to police and security officials. In a last-ditch attempt to alleviate tensions, police lathi-charged the crowd which only made matters worse. Many are currently undergoing treatment in Bowring Hospital. The Royal Challengers Bangalore team, led by captain Rajat Patidar, arrived in Bengaluru this afternoon. The tragedy occurred when the Karnataka government was about to welcome the team at Vidhana Soudha.
