CHENNAI: A deep depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into Cyclone Mandous and will make landfall over the Tamil Nadu-Andhra coast today. The cyclone will make landfall today at a speed of 65 to 75 km per hour. The weather department has warned that it will reach the land by midnight on Wednesday. At present, the position of the cyclone is 270 km from Karaikal. As a result of the cyclone, isolated heavy rains are predicted in Kerala.
The prevailing wind between Puducherry and Sriharikota will be north-westerly. NDRF teams have also been deployed here. Due to the wind, a holiday has been declared for educational institutions in coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra.
