CHENNAI: The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam lambasted Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam president Vijay for the latter’s delay in visiting the stampede-affected Karur. DMK said TVK's silence is deceptive and shows disrespect to those who died in the tragedy. The critical note was shared on the DMK's IT wing page.
“The tragedy happened in Karur 20 days ago. TVK amassed the crowd just to make the event ostentatious. The families of those who lost their lives in Karur have not been visited directly, condoled or provided financial assistance by the TVK chief. This deceptive silence is disrespectful to the families of those who lost their lives.
Doesn’t Vijay have any time left to visit, or is the script not ready? Is humanity not even in TVK's dictionary? Or is he making an excuse that he did not get permission?” DMK said in their statement.
Meanwhile, TVK came out with a response. TVK spokesperson Loyola Mani blamed Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin's government for creating obstacles for Vijay's visit to Karur.
“The government is incapable of providing proper security for public events. The government is responsible for the tragedy in Karur. Isn't it shameful to put all the blame on TVK without the courage to respond? People have not believed the allegations made against us yet. Vijay had spoken to the families of those who died in Karur on a video call. He had promised to visit them soon,” Loyola Mani responded.
