Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta attacked at public meet, hospitalized

NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has been hospitalized after she was attacked during a public meet held at her residence Wednesday morning. A man attacked her and pulled her hair. A man in his 40s has been arrested in the incident. Security personnel arrested him after the attack. Rekha Gupta has been admitted to the hospital. Police said the man is being questioned and the reason for the attack is not clear.


The man came near her during a ‘Jansunwai’, organized at the chief minister's residence to listen to the grievances of the people. He has been identified as Rajesh Sakaria from Rajkot in Gujarat. The chief minister attends the Jansunwai meet held at her residence every week. Eyewitnesses said the attacker came with some papers and approached the chief minister. He was talking to her and suddenly attacked her.

The BJP said the party suspects a political conspiracy behind the attack. Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said rivals cannot tolerate her work on the ground and an investigation is on to find out who is behind the attacker.
