NEW DELHI: Police said Haryana-based YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra, arrested for spying had visited Pakistan just before the Pahalgam terror attack. Haryana police got crucial information after interrogating her in custody. Jyoti, who is in police custody for five days, is likely to be questioned by central agencies in the coming days.
The police have also intensified investigation into the source of her income. The police believe that she cannot travel abroad multiple times from her YouTube income. The police suspect that Jyoti may have received money from outside.
The police are also examining the details of Jyoti's visit to Pakistan before the Pahalgam attack. The details of Jyoti's visit to China have also been included in the investigation. Pakistan had roped in Jyoti Malhotra, who runs the YouTube channel ‘Travel with Jo', after understanding her influence. She has 3.77 lakh YouTube subscribers and 1.33 lakh Instagram followers.
In 2023, Jyoti met Danish alias Ehsan-ur-Rahim, an officer expelled by India, when she visited the Pakistan High Commission in Delhi to arrange a visa for her trip to Pakistan. When she went to Pakistan, the relationship extended to ISI officials. Subsequently, Jyoti's trips to Pakistan, China and Indonesia were sponsored by them. Jyoti visited Pakistan four times. She exchanged crucial information with Pakistani handlers she met through WhatsApp, Telegram and Snapchat. She also went to Bali, Indonesia, with one of them.
Jyoti was a regular presence at Iftar parties of the Pakistan Embassy in Delhi. A video posted by Jyoti after attending the Iftar party on March 28, Pakistan's National Day, shows her closeness to Pakistani officials.
