NEW DELHI: The police suspect the suicide bomber behind the blast near the Red Fort last evening is Dr Umar Mohammad. The investigation team also informed that CCTV footage from the blast site and forensic evidence point to the involvement of Dr Umar. A severed hand has been found from the blast site. It is suspected to be that of Umar. The investigation team said that DNA samples of Umar's relatives in Kashmir are being collected to confirm this.

The police are confirming the link between the Delhi blast and the seizure of a large cache of explosives from Faridabad. It has been found that Dr Umar is an aide of the arrested doctors. He is a native of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir. Umar was working as a doctor at Al-Falah Medical College in Faridabad.

Umar's father was a teacher in a government school. It is also reported that he left his job years ago due to mental issues. He has two brothers and an elder sister at home. One of them is married. Umar's two brothers and mother are in police custody presently.

Umar took his MD from Government Medical College in Srinagar. After that, he worked as a senior resident at GMC Anantnag and later went to Delhi. Umar was also part of a radicalized group of medical professionals formed through Telegram channels.
