Karur tragedy; TVK leader ends life, allegations against former DMK minister in note

CHENNAI: A local leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has ended his life. The dead is TVK branch secretary V Ayyappan (50) of Villuppuram. Ayyappan was earlier an office bearer of Vijay Fans Association. His family said that he was upset seeing the tragic news that happened in Karur.

The police have recovered his emotional suicide note. There are allegations against former minister and DMK leader Senthil Balaji in the note. The note said security was not provided for the rally in Karur due to pressure from Balaji. Ayyappan’s phone has been seized.


A case was registered against TVK state general secretary Bussy Anand, joint secretary C T Nirmal Kumar and Karur district secretary Mathiyazhakan in the tragedy that claimed the lives of 41 people in Karur. The case has been registered under sections including culpable homicide. Mathiyazhakan was arrested last night. No case has been registered against TVK chief Vijay.

Posters demanding Vijay's immediate arrest are circulating in Karur. 'Vijay is a political leader who caused a mass tragedy and fled, Vijay, the murderer, should be arrested immediately', posters appeared in the name of the Tamil Nadu Students' Union. Two TVK workers and a BJP worker were arrested for spreading propaganda about the Karur tragedy via social media.
