KOLKATA: CCTV footage has emerged in the gang-rape incident of the law student at a South Calcutta Law College in West Bengal. The Kolkata Police revealed to the media that they have received CCTV footage of the law student being dragged from the college gate to the campus by two accused and raped.

The case involves a 24-year-old law college student being gang-raped in the guard room by two senior students and a former student on June 25. The footage corroborates the victim's statement that the main accused Manojit Mishra had asked two other accused to forcefully take her to the guard room. The CCTV footage captured activities around the college premises, including the movements of the three accused, the security guard and the victim. A senior police officer said that the footage is being examined.

Police said that they suspect that the reason for the gang rape of the student was because she rejected the marriage proposal of the main accused. Four people - Manojit Mishra, Promit Mukherjee, Syed Ahmed and a college guard - have been arrested so far in the case. The complaint states that Manojit raped the student and two others shot the videos. Manojit Mishra is a leader of the Trinamool youth wing. However, the party has made it clear that it will not protect the accused. The victim was taken to the college yesterday and her statement was recorded. A five-member special team led by the Assistant Commissioner is investigating the case.
