NEW DELHI: The nation is celebrating the 155th Gandhi Jayanti today, echoing the ideals of non-violence and cleanliness. Leaders including President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid their respects to the Father of the Nation at Raj Ghat.
"On his birth anniversary, I bow to the revered Bapu on behalf of everyone in the nation. His life and ideals, rooted in truth, unity, and equality, will always remain an inspiration for the people of this country," Modi remarked, paying his respects.
Taking to her official X handle, President Droupadi Murmu stated that everyone should work for the development of the country by embracing the values of truth, non-violence and love. Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced cleanliness programs worth Rs 10,000 crore to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Gandhi Jayanti commemorations began at Raj Ghat with an interfaith prayer. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Speaker Om Birla, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud paid their respects to the Father of the Nation. Today also marks the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, India's second Prime Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid his respects at Vijay Ghat, a memorial dedicated to Shastri's legacy.
