NEW DELHI: Bollywood actress Bhumi Pednekar has reacted strongly to the incident in which a six-year-old girl was subjected to gang rape in Delhi. In her Instagram story, the actress wrote that the situation in the country is so bad that people think they can commit sexual assaults and escape punishment. In Delhi, the six-year-old girl was gang-raped by boys aged 10, 13 and 14. Police have arrested two of them.
"What is going on? We clearly are failing cause we haven't, till now, been able to instil fear into these monsters who think they can get away with sexual violence. Breaks my heart to see underage boys go through with something so heinous. Imagine the environments they are growing up in. We are punishing the voiceless in our country, and have sensationalised dogs being a threat. What about the fact that a 6-year-old isn't safe on our streets and actually no child is, cause in this case the perpetrators are also victims. Wake up, India,' Bhumi wrote.
The six-year-old was gang-raped on January 18. She came home bleeding and first told her parents that she had fallen on the road. According to the police, the boys lured the girl by promising noodles, took her to an abandoned building nearby, and assaulted her.
