Karnataka fatal road accident: Car was speeding at 160 kmph, say police

BENGALURU: Police concluded that it was speeding that resulted in the tragic car accident that killed seven people, including two Malayali students, in Karnataka. Police say the car in which the students were travelling was speeding at 150-160 kmph. The speeding car hit a bike and a lorry. Six students and the biker died.

Ashwin Nair, son of T.S. Ajith and Smita Nair of Varkala; Ethan John George, son of Thomas George and Pearl George of Mallapally, Pathanamthitta; Arhan Sherif, Ayan Ali, Farhan, Bharath, and biker Gagan (26), natives of Kothannur, died in the accident.

The accident took place at 5.30 am at Satyavara on the Dabaspet to Hoskote of Satellite Town Ring Road. Gagan was hit by a car first, and he fell on the road and died instantly. The car then moved forward and crashed into the lorry. The impact of the crash caused the lorry to overturn. After hitting the lorry, the SUV moved towards the crash barrier on the road and stopped.

The car belongs to Ayan Ali's father. The students were on a pleasure trip to celebrate passing the exams. The lorry driver was also injured in the accident, but his condition is not serious.
