NEW DELHI: Pakistan yet again requested India to retrospect the decision to put the Indus water treaty in abeyance. A demand has been made to reinstate the frozen agreement. Pakistan wrote three letters in this regard, sent by the Secretary of Water Resources of Pakistan to the Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Water Resources.

In the letter Pakistan elucidated how the decision has affected agriculture and also worsened the country’s already insufficient drinking water supply. The Indus Waters Treaty is a water-sharing agreement between India and Pakistan brokered by the World Bank.

India's first step in the fight against terrorism was to counter Pakistan diplomatically. India first put the IWT into abeyance and then cancelled visas for Pakistani citizens. Soon, the Attari-Wagah border was closed and trade relations with Pakistan were halted.

On the other hand, Pakistan put up strong resistance by cancelling the Shimla Agreement and closing its airspace. After midnight on the 7th of last month, India attacked terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir in a counterattack titled ‘Operation Sindoor’ to avenge the Pahalgam massacre.
