COIMBATORE: Popular wild tusker 'Rolex', that trampled four people and injured many others in Tamil Nadu in a year, died on Wednesday. The elephant, captured from Coimbatore last month, was housed in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. It was with the help of four Kumki elephants that Rolex was captured last month.
Rolex used to destroy crops and attack people at a whim. In the past year, the elephant killed four people. Locals have been repeatedly demanding that the elephant be captured using a tranquilliser shot.
The Tamil Nadu Forest Department took action to capture Rolex in September itself. However, the mission was halted when the elephant attacked Vijayaraghavan, a veterinary officer at the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.
Last month, the elephant was captured in a mission led by PCCF Venkatesan using Kumki elephants Kapildev, Bomman, Wasim, and Chinnathambi.
Rolex was untameable in nature and used to attack people the moment he spotted any. Today, the elephant was found lying dead in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve.
