AMETHI: A government school teacher and his family were brutally murdered by a gang in Bhavani Nagar, Amethi. The victims have been identified as Sunil Kumar (35), his wife Poonam Bharti and their two daughters, aged one and six.

The tragic event occurred despite Poonam's prior warnings to the police. Two months ago, she had filed a formal complaint expressing fears for her family's safety, specifically naming a man called Chandan as the potential threat. Poonam stated that Chandan had repeatedly threatened her life and, if any harm befell her or her family, he would be responsible.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has condemned the murders and assured the public that strict action will be taken against the perpetrators.

National media outlets have reported that Poonam had filed her complaint with the police in August, accusing Chandan of harassment and making life-threatening remarks. The complaint also alleged crimes under the SC/ST Act, including rape threats. Poonam recounted an incident from August 18, when Chandan allegedly misbehaved with her as she visited a hospital in Rae Bareli to buy medicine for her child. When she objected, both she and her husband were physically assaulted and subjected to caste-based insults.

The FIR registered following her complaint detailed how Chandan had warned them to stay silent or face dire consequences. The family had been living in constant fear since the incident.
