Telangana govt refuses to celebrate Republic Day despite HC order; Governor unfurls national flag

HYDERABAD: Telangana government refused to celebrate Republic Day as per protocol despite High Court orders. The officials say that the celebration was not organized at the parade ground in Secunderabad as part of the Covid precaution.

This is the third year in a row that Telangana has not celebrated Republic Day. In a public interest litigation filed by a lawyer, the Telangana High Court had directed that the Republic Day celebrations be held in accordance with the guidelines of the Central government.

Meanwhile, Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan hoisted the national flag at a function organized at Raj Bhavan. Senior officials including the Chief Secretary also attended the function. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao and ministers skipped the function. Chief Minister laid wreath at Army Memorial in Secunderabad.
