PAHALGAM: Terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. Tourists were attacked. One person was killed and 12 others were injured in the attack. Security forces have reached the area and started searching. The terrorists opened fire on the tourists who had gone for trekking to the top of a hill called Baisaran.
The area can only be reached on foot or on horseback. Initial reports said that two people were shot by the terrorists. After the attack, the terrorists fled the scene. It was a woman who informed the police control room. Heavy security has been deployed at the scene.
The attack happens when the 38-day Amarnath pilgrimage is scheduled to begin on July 3 and the registration is ongoing. There are two routes for the pilgrimage. One is the 48-km Pahalgam route in Anantnag district and the other 14-km Baltal route in Ganderbal district, which is shorter but steeper.
