Congress activists attack DCC President in Wayanad 

WAYANAD: DCC President N D Appachan was attacked during a Congress meeting. He was manhandled at the Mullankolli Congress Development Committee meeting. A group dispute over the post of Congress constituency president at the meeting held above the Padichira Service Cooperative Bank ended in the attack. Initial information is that he was attacked by people from the Kaduppan family group, a prominent family in the area. The issue started with the allegation that people from other groups were not included in the bank's administrative committee or the constituency Congress committee.

There have been differences of opinion between I C Balakrishnan and N D Appachan factions in the Wayanad Congress for the past few days. An audio call message of the two leaders arguing had also surfaced earlier. In the meantime, the unpleasant incident happened.

K L Paulose group and I C Balakrishnan group had objected to the fact that a close associate of N D Appachan was the mandal president in Mullankolli. They demanded that the mandalm president be replaced before the panchayat elections. When he was not ready for this, Appachan was manhandled. It is reported that Appachan fell on the ground after being beaten up. The workers later took him away from the spot. The incident has caused great embarrassment to the party.
