NEW DELHI: Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the India-US trade deal. Rahul accused the Prime Minister of selling out the country's interests by bowing to Trump's pressure. He alleged that the Prime Minister is under pressure from the U.S. case involving the Adani Group and the "Epstein files," suggesting more, as-yet-unreleased material exists. Gandhi claimed this pressure led the Prime Minister to sign a trade deal with the United States under unfavourable terms, stating, "The main thing is that our PM is compromised". The Opposition leader indicated that the Indian public has a right to know the contents of the Epstein files, arguing that these, along with other matters, are why he was not allowed to speak in Parliament.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the trade deal with the US as crucial for India. The Prime Minister claimed that this would be a big achievement in the manufacturing sector. The NDA members welcomed the Prime Minister in Parliament with cheers. However, the opposition is strengthening the argument that Modi has surrendered to the US. The Lok Sabha proceedings were disrupted till noon as the opposition stormed the stage with slogans of surrender Modi.
US President Donald Trump gave the first hint about the US-India trade deal yesterday. He said that India will now buy oil from Venezuela. The US President had also mentioned that India will stop importing oil from Russia. Trump had also announced that the 50% additional tariff imposed on India for buying Russian oil will be reduced to 18.
