Two Air Force pilots killed in Sukhoi Su-30 crash in Assam

NEW DELHI: Two pilots of the Indian Air Force’ Sukhoi Su-30 MK1 fighter jet were killed in the crash in Assam. The two killed are Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar. The deaths were confirmed after a rescue mission by the Indian Air Force.

The accident occurred around 7 pm in the hilly area of Karbi Anglong district of Assam while conducting a routine training flight. The aircraft lost contact with the radar after taking off from Jorhat on Friday evening. Following this, an inspection by the Indian Air Force confirmed that the aircraft had crashed.


The Sukhoi Su-30 MK1 is a two-seater, long-range fighter jet developed by Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi. The aircraft is built under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the Indian Air Force. The IAF operates a fleet of over 260 Su-30 MKI jets. The Sukhoi Su-30MKI was first inducted into the IAF in 1997.
