NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi engaged in a heated exchange during the SIR debate in the Lok Sabha. Rahul Gandhi challenged Amit Shah to discuss vote rigging, while the union minister responded that he would not take orders from others.

Amit Shah amplified the spat after he blamed the Congress for committing the first election fraud in India’s history and stifling democracy. The war of words between the ruling and opposition parties led to a ruckus in the House. The Opposition then boycotted the House and walked out. Even after this, Shah continued his reply speech.

Amit Shah said that SIR was conducted to ensure that only genuine voters remained in the voter list.

Amit Shah:

“When you win, the EVMs are perfect. You will take an oath wearing new clothes. If you lose, as in Bihar, there will be cries about EVM tampering and election fraud. This double standard will not work.

The Congress Working Committee decided to make Patel the Prime Minister. Patel got more votes. But Nehru ended up becoming the Prime Minister. This was the first ever vote chori in India. Indira Gandhi's election in Rae Bareli was the second vote theft. Sonia Gandhi voted in India before getting citizenship. This was the third vote theft. Congress sabotaged democracy with sheer impunity”
