BHOPAL: BJP leader and former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Uma Bharti on Tuesday said that liquor shops will be converted into cow shelters. She said the new decision is to end the crime against women in Madhya Pradesh which is linked to liquor consumption. "Without waiting for the liquor policy, I will start converting liquor shops, which are being run in contravention of rules, into cow shelters," she said.

She made the announcement of 'Madhushala Me Gaushala' (cow shelters in place of liquor outlets) after staying at a temple in Bhopal for four days.

Uma Bharti claimed that the operation of a liquor shop near the Ram Raja Sarkar temple near Orchha in Niwari district was illegal.

The BJP leader said that she has arranged for eleven cows to be put outside the shop. “Will see who dares to stop me... will feed these cows and arrange water for them at the liquor shop,”, she added.
