Woman police officer booked for embezzling over 16 lakhs from fines collected in petty cases

KOCHI: A senior woman police officer has been booked for allegedly embezzling lakhs of rupees from fines collected in petty cases. The accused, identified as Shanthi Krishna, a Senior Civil Police Officer attached to the Muvattupuzha Police Station, is reported to have misappropriated over Rs 16 lakh during a four-year period.

The fraud took place while Shanthi was serving as a Traffic Enforcement Writer in Muvattupuzha. By manipulating petty cash collections, she misappropriated a total of Rs 16,76,650. The embezzlement occurred between 2018 and 2022. Investigations revealed that Shanthi falsified receipts and registers to carry out the fraud.
